Free things to do in Rancho Cucamonga

The best free asset in the city is twenty miles long: the Pacific Electric Trail, flat and paved on the old Red Car line, no permit, no fee, open every day. Add the parks — a hundred acres at Central Park, a lake with resident ducks at Red Hill, horses at Heritage — and you can fill a month of weekends at zero dollars.

Summer stacks the calendar: free movies in the park twice a week in season, free concerts at Chaffey Town Square on Thursdays, and a free monthly community bike ride from Central Park. The libraries punch far above their weight — study rooms, a “Library of Things,” free tutoring — and the Route 66 landmarks (the service station museum, Thomas Winery plaza, the Virginia Dare tower) cost nothing to visit.

One asterisk we’ll keep repeating: Etiwanda Falls is a free hike with a paid parking lot — $4 to $7, bought online before you drive out. Still the best deal in town.
