The Etiwanda Roadhouse

Etiwanda's roadhouse bar on Highland Ave — the east side's drink-and-talk room.

Etiwanda is the east end of Rancho Cucamonga — the part of the city that was its own community before incorporation stitched everything together — and The Etiwanda Roadhouse is its bar, out on Highland Ave and a long way in spirit from the Victoria Gardens end of town.

'Roadhouse' is the right word. This is a drink-and-talk operation for the neighborhood, not a concept venue, and the east side is better for having it. As new housing tracts push the city's edge further out, a bar like this is part of what keeps a district feeling like a place instead of a subdivision.

It slots naturally into the city's old-bar circuit — Hide-A-While and Mustang Sally's on Foothill, Deane's in Red Hill, the Roadhouse out east. None of them will impress anyone on a first date. All of them are why a guide like this exists.
