Victoria Gardens
The 147-acre open-air center that functions as Rancho Cucamonga's de facto downtown.
Rancho Cucamonga never had a historic downtown, so in 2004 it built one. Victoria Gardens is a 147-acre open-air grid of real streets with parking behind the storefronts, and it works: this is where the city meets, eats, sees movies, and kills Saturday afternoons.
The anchor list is long — Macy's, JCPenney, AMC's 12-screen theater, Apple, Nike, Sephora, Zara, Lululemon — but the one worth planning around is Bass Pro Shops, the first in California, a warehouse-scale spectacle with an aquarium's worth of tanks that kids treat as a free attraction. The dining bench is deeper than most malls carry: Fleming's, King's Fish House, Fogo de Chão, Seasons 52, Yard House with its 100-plus taps, and a dozen more.
Chaffey Town Square in the center hosts the free summer concert series and Tuesday movie nights, and the Cultural Center on the property houses the Lewis Family Playhouse and Biane Library. Come at 10am on a weekday and it's pleasant; come Friday night and it's the busiest place in the city.
